Web
Design
What do we really want when we are thinking about a new
website for our business? In many ways this is probably one of
the most fundamental decisions you will take. First thing I
would ask anyone thinking of taking this important and
essential step is to have a look at other web sites that you
have liked yourself; this can be a great time saver and can
lead to some wonderful inspiration.
Keep It Simple
There is always a risk of the designer running away with the
latest craze, just because they have learnt something new and
must try it out on the next web design that comes along – try
to keep to what you actually need and not what is the latest
trend.
I appreciate a good web designed site just like anyone but
there is one thing that I don’t like and that’s waiting; If I
click on a site I want to get there straight away, I don’t want
a 10 second flash intro to pop up with some hideous music. This
brings me to a short story I must tell you, I was sitting at my
desk in a busy office and like many people I decided to look
for my next holiday, I clicked on this Caribbean villa rental
site and to my embarrassment some loud steel pan music came
thumping out, this was embarrassing as I was meant to be
working – so don’t do it keep, away from the music and the
flash intro’s. It is always best to design your website for the
majority and that means clean, quick and professional and never
more than two clicks away from your product offering.
Optimisation Tips:
Try to have your business name linked in some way to your
business, example Warwick Plumbing, this would certainly help
you when potential clients are looking for plumbers in Warwick.
Try to get your keyword into the main text on your web site,
the web spiders of Google and Yahoo are always looking for
something that is relevant to the clients search terms.
